Fishing and Crabbing

Reed and Roger went out fishing three times. Twice they put the crab traps down. I would have loved to go but I know how sick I'd be out on the ocean and one day it was extremely rough. The first day they called when they were done and told us to meet them at George's dock and bring the camera. The private dock belongs to a neighbor and is where Roger has his crab cooking pot, counter space, knives and equipment to take care of the fish. Deon and I got on the 4-wheeler and these are the pictures I took:

The Tilton Hilton

The 'Tilton Hilton' (so named because it really tilts inside) is Cole's rustic log vacation/guest house at Bay Haven in South Beach, Oregon. It is booked solid all summer long with family and friends who bask in the beautiful and peaceful surroundings while enjoying Roger and Deon's generosity and hospitality. We feel fortunate to have been able to spend six nights there. It is quite an interesting adventure.

The inside of the cabin should be referred to as 'Roger's Relic Hall.' There are thousands of things. What a trip down memory lane! Besides the collections, the Tilton Hilton has a full kitchen, living room, TVs, heaters, washer and dryer, beds and a bathroom with an old refinished clawfoot tub. Here are just a few pictures:

Roger and Deon's Place...Bay Haven

We attended sacrament meeting in Corvallis where Roger and Deon had a great-grandson blessed. They showed us where they lived for 40 years and the new development on their previous property. It was called "Cole's Landing" and the road was named "Deon Drive." We had some scrumptious crab feasts preceded by cracking crab. Roger is a great chef and Deon made some very tasty accompanients. Deon started a fire each evening for us to sit around and visit while keeping the chill away. While the guys were fishing we took a drive around town and did some shopping.

Here's a bunch of random pictures in and around the yard. I hope I'm not being a privacy invader...I haven't given the address and even with the address and a navigation system in our car, we still had to call and ask for guidance! Besides that, this blog is private and I only have about 6 loyal readers.

Gorgeous, serene, private...pretty hard to take, huh? But all good things must come to an end. After six delightful days there, we headed home. We were gone a total of 17 days. We had a great vacation!

Summer stuff

We went for a 30 mile ATV ride with a couple from Dayton who I work with at the temple. We parked at their home and went straight up the road, along some mountain trails, down through Clifton, ate at Papa Jay's there, rode back to Dayton, had pie and ice cream, then drove back home. Fun, beautiful and exhausting day. The picture below is taken up above Jean and Ron's new home. The water is Twin Lakes.

The angel Moroni was supposed to be placed on the Brigham temple today around noon. We drove by but did not stop. It seemed there were thousands and thousands of people huddled under thousands and thousands of umbrellas...unbelievable! Many were in Sunday dress. Due to rain and wind, Moroni wasn't placed atop the temple until about 2:30 p.m. These pictures were taken out the car window as I was driving and they don't do justice to what it looked like.




Nephew, Brandon Conlin, married Maria Briese on Friday, July 8th in West Jordan. Everyone had a good time and it was good to see some family members we hadn't seen for a while. Here are two of pictures of the newlyweds dancing:


On Saturday, July 8th we held the Conlin Family Reunion at the Lions Pavilion at Willow Park in Logan. It was a beautiful day. The reunion was well attended and everything turned out fine but we are glad it is over! Being in charge of two reunions two weeks apart is nerve wracking. I didn't take a single picture but one of Reed's cousins said she'd email me some she took so I could post them here and on the Conlin Family blog.

Robin's family stayed overnight and relieved us of a little of our junk. We were talking about our upcoming vacation. How random and coincidental is this? Neither of us knew the plans of the other, but Robin, Andrew and girls will be staying in Boise on Thursday night...the same night we will be staying there. The next night Robin made reservations for a motel in Seattle and it is exactly the same motel we are staying in! As long as they will be in Seattle, Robin has signed Ashlyn up for a dance competition. We wish her well! Maybe we will be able to see it before we board the cruise ship.

This week Hailey is attending EFY (Especially For Youth) on the campus of Utah State.

Tonight we went out to dinner with Zobells. Dale and Susan were in our ward in Millville and Dale served as a counselor in the bishopric to Reed. They moved to Wellsville before we moved to Nibley and they have recently moved into this ward where we are living.

Jill and Brandon's basement is coming along fine. There was a big mess when blown-in insulation was all over the house including some of the kitchen drawers. That was cleaned up and a couple of days later everything was covered with white sheetrock dust. Things are taking shape.

In a couple of weeks I hope to have some good pictures to post.

Winter doesn't want to relinquish its grip on the landscape; It still looks like very early spring, not the 4th of July week! There aren't many campgrounds accessible and open.

When we got stuck the first time we went back, turned off and went up Steep Canyon. When we couldn't go any further we sat on a rock and had a picnic. These pictures are of the snow covered road with the snow melt creating rivers on the road bed.

I'm looking forward to another ride on Wednesday in Idaho with a couple I work with at the temple. We are going to establish the TW4WRC...Temple Workers 4-Wheelers Riding Club. Ha-ha.

Jill, Courtney, Hailey and Natalie went to Youth Conference in the St. George area and had a great time. They came home, washed clothes and packed for a family week at Bear Lake. The rented unit slept 22 (or more) and was above the store across the sidewalk from the timeshare unit we had for over 20 years. We took the boat up one day so the kids could go on a ride or kneeboard. I am always proud of the first time boarders. Riley did great on his very first try!Ashlyn told me she got first place in a dance competition the weekend before. Jill and family came home from Bear Lake, washed clothes and packed again and headed for the weekend in American Falls. Reed has been taking care of the yard and garden, we've been feeding and watering the hermit crabs, we're doing some dishes and housework etc. Reed has prepared some tasty dinners. We have been house hunting. There are possibilities but there pros and cons to everything we've seen. We will check out more next week. The temple has been extremely busy and after today, will undergo maintenance and remodeling during the summer break. It will be back in business on August 2nd.

Courtney is back working at a snow shack again this summer. Jill and Brandon put on a big fireworks display. Kim's family came to it and there were many neighbors watching from their yards, decks or the road. When Logan City had their fireworks we had a good view from the deck. We really didn't do much celebrating. We didn't attend the Cruise-In or parade. We went to see "17 Miracles." When our ward went to Martin's Cove we were each 'assigned' a name of one of the members of the Martin-Willie Handcart Company. I was Tamar Loader and Reed was Thomas E. Ricks. Their story(miracle)was portrayed in the movie. We'll be attending the marriage of nephew, Brandon and his wife-to-be, Maria on July 8th. The next day we will be having the Conlin Reunion at Willow Park.
