Hogle Zoo, tidbits

On Friday we watched Ashlyn and Katelyn at the zoo for a little while. Here are a few pictures:

Knee-high by the 4th of July?

We don't know where the saying came from, but in reference to the height of corn, Reed and I have always used that phrase as a 'yardstick' as to how our corn is progressing. As you can see in the picture below, our corn is nearly waist high and we still have a week to go until the 4th of July. I admit that I am short but our garden is still doing great. We ought to have zuchinni very, very soon. We have so many plants we are sure to have a bumper crop...so come get some!

Sunday was a nice day. We went to Sacrament Meeting and Sunday School in our ward and then drove to American Falls, Idaho. Reed attended Priesthood Meeting with Ross and I went to Relief Society with Angie. After meetings were over, Reed ordained Ross a High Priest. We had a tasty dinner with Ross and Angie...shrimp salad, green beans, fried potatoes, ribs and cantaloupe. Then we drove home and attended a 'Mix and Mingle' at Sam's and Kacie's beautiful new home. We got to see and visit with many family members.

Dam Fishing at Hyrum

After a bad day of fishing at Willard Bay yesterday, the today we had pretty good luck at Hyrum Dam. Unfortunately, however, there was only one lure they would take, so after Reed got his limit he let me use it. Too bad we wasted 1 1/2 hours bait fishing without results until we decided to troll. We're having fish on the grill tonight with peas from the garden. Yum, yum!

Summerfest etc.

For the past three weeks it has rained nearly every day. There have been many precipitation records broken. I think Smithfield has had something like 5 inches of rain. We have had only a few windows of opportunities to even mow our lawn. I struggle with gray skies and drizzling rain. It depresses me. There have been flooding, mudslides, ruined hay etc. We are antsy to go fishing, boating and 4-wheeling. On the upside, it is nice that we haven't had to do outside watering...our beans have come up totally yellow, though. If there is another positive thing, it is that we haven't had to use the air conditioner. We have been to the temple a couple of times, we have been reading books and catching up on family history work. We are currently taking a Family History class in Sunday School. Our stake goes online for the New FamilySearch tomorrow! I have a makeshift workstation on a table in the livingroom with the laptop. Reed works in the computer room:

Ransom Reunion

The Ransom reunion (Reed's Mother's side of the family) was held in Woods Cross on Saturday. It has rained nearly every day since Memorial Day and Saturday was no different. It was quite cool and we spent most of the time under the pavilion. The rain didn't deter the kids very much.

Saturday was also the culmination of Nibley Heritage Days. The Johnsons didn't attend the reunion but attended city celebrations instead. Bryan drove in the parade. They threw frozen otter pops. The VanWagenens came to our house to spend Saturday night. With the pouring rain there really wasn't much to do. The boys picked and ate a few peas from the garden. Mason wanted to go geocaching. We'll have to do that another day. We watched a new DVD that Jory got for Father's Day. They didn't sleep well and some of them were sick so they headed home after we left for church. Father's Day was rather quiet and uneventful. We did go for a drive up Providence Canyon.

The Beautiful Wellsvilles

Here is an update of my photography work in progress. I love the beauty of the Wellsville mountains of the Wasatch Range. I take pictures of the mountains during every season of the year. I go to approximately the same location each time, which is a few blocks south and a few blocks west of our home. Enjoy beautiful Cache Valley!

Marijuana anyone?

A distance further up Cub River past Deer Cliff Inn and Albert Moser Campground, a new trail was made for ATVs, bikers, etc. It parallels the road and was probably made to keep recreational vehicles off the main road. This picture is of the sign at the trailhead of the new Cub River Trail:

New Hairdo

Today was Reed's birthday. We went to McDonald's for breakfast. (Whoopee) Then we went on a very beautiful drive up Cub River and up to Willow Flat. By the time we got back to town it was time to eat again so we stopped at Carls Jr. (Really exciting, huh?) I wanted to try the new 'Elements' restaurant that has just opened at Marriott's Springhill. Reed said it would be too pricey. We went grocery shopping and then while I baked a couple of cakes, Reed took a little nap. After I fixed a blah supper and we ate, we had Kim, Bryan, Riley, Ashley, Jayse, Brynlee, Jill, Brandon, Courtney, Hailey, Natalie and Kaden over for cake and ice cream. Reed received a lot of phone calls and had some of the grandkids sing 'happy birthday' to him.

Dance

We went to Logan High Auditorium to see Ashley's dance program. Our ears are still ringing! Besides the loud music there was someone behind us who had to do a very loud and shrill whistle and scream whenever her daughter was on stage. Because they had a professional photographer videotaping the production, we were asked not to take any pictures during the performance. Afterward there weren't any photo ops as there were hundreds of parents and grandparents trying to meet up with the hundreds of dancers. Anyway, here are a couple of pictures I snapped. Too bad she wasn't in costume for one of the three dances in which she performed. Ashley did a great job dancing! Congratulations to her also as she is coming out of 5th grade and going directly into 7th grade. She has smarts and talent!
