4/19/95 - Alfred P. Murrah Federal Bldg in OKC

This is part of the original chainlink fence that was put around the bombed building to keep the area secure. 200 feet were kept to give people the opportunity to leave remembrances.

This is a part of the original building that survived. Upon the wall are pieces of salvaged granite from the Murrah Building lobby inscribed with the names of more than 600 who survived the terrorist attack.

Three views of the reflecting pool:

This is called the 'Survivor Tree.' It witnessed and withstood the violence that took place at this location. The message reads: The spirit of this city and this nation will not be defeated; our deeply rooted faith sustains us.

At each end of the reflecting pool are 'gates' that mark the formal entrances to the memorial. They are marked with the time just before and just after the attack...9:01 and 9:03. The pool marks what was once N.W. Fifth Street.

Two views of the Field of Empty Chairs:

Each of these 168 chairs represent a life lost in the bombing. There are 19 smaller chairs to symbolize the children who died. There are nine rows signifying the nine floors of the building. Each row shows how many were killed on that floor. The base of the chairs are illuminated at night. The field's perimeter matches the footprint of the former Murrah Building. It is lined by a granite path--granite that was salvaged from the Murrah Plaza.
