Today is Monday, September 1st. It is Labor Day. It is a foggy, windy, rainy, cold, miserable day. There have even been a few snowflakes. Between the storms Reed has to go out and get the puddles off the ATV covers and readjust them. We can't get much outside work done. I am mainly doing laundry and blogging. I feel sorry for the masses of people out trying to have the last hurrah of summer. The temperature is 41 degrees right now and is dropping. (11 a.m.) Our 6 month mission call is coming to a close. It has been physically exhausting work but for the most part, we have really enjoyed it. We loved about 98 percent of the missionaries. They are the cream of the crop! They are nice, friendly, multi-talented people. It is a joy to associate with them. There have been a couple of 'bad apples' who have made things unpleasant at times. I suppose you get those kind anywhere you go. The actual work is great, whereas camp politics are a downer. The surroundings couldn't be more beautiful! The great outdoors with beautiful panoramic vistas and an abundance of animal life have been a wonderful place to spend our days in the service of others. How could it get any better when you ride 4-wheelers and wear jeans and a camp shirt? We really loved working with the young women on the challenge course. They arrive so full of enthusiasm and bring a special spirit to the mountain. Their Young Women leaders are very organized so everything goes like clock work. We sort of tolerate the families who come on weekends. However, it is fun to see the smiles and hear the laughter of the little children. That is our reward. Last week we had an interview to see what our thoughts were about coming back another summer. After careful and prayerful consideration of personal issues, family issues and Heber Valley Camp issues, we decided not to return. With our 2 year temple calling which entailed working Saturdays, then this 6 month mission added to that, we feel we need some Saturday freedom or family time. With our family members working or going to school during the week and with their own callings at church on Sunday, Saturdays are about the only day available. Who knows, maybe after a break we will be ready to put our papers in to see where the luck of the draw (or inspiration) takes us. I am glad we have come on this mission and highly recommend it to others.
